How to Correct VSS Calculation on your Aces Handheld!

The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is a sensor located in the transmission of your vehicle. ECUs such as the Aces Jackpot 2 incorporate data from the VSS to determine how fast the wheels are turning in order to correctly display mph and help your engine shift gears smoothly. If the ECU's calculation of VSS input is off, it can cause sloppy or sluggish shifting, incorrect display of speed, or even a failure to shift gears. Luckily, Aces systems have a simple method to correct VSS calc, helping you to troubleshoot and hopefully eliminate your shifter issues.

1. Return to the Main Menu screen on your Aces Handheld.
2. Select "Tuning > Transmission."
3. Scroll down until you see Tire Diameter and Rear Gear Ratio. Make sure both of these values are correct for your vehicle.
4. Take your vehicle to a safe driving area for testing.
5. Ready an external method of checking vehicle speed independently. For most, the easiest way of doing this is with the GPS speed function of a smartphone, accessible through a maps feature such as Google Maps.
6. On your Handheld, return to the Main Menu and select "Monitor > Sensors." Scroll down until you see VSS, with mph listed beside it.
7. Drive a short distance, comparing the speed listed beside VSS on the handheld with the speed from your external source, e.g. your GPS speed. For safety purposes, do not drive at high speed. Keep your eyes on the road.
8. If there is a discrepancy between the listed VSS speed and your GPS speed, your VSS calculation requires correction. Go to "Main Menu > Tuning > Transmission" and scroll down until you see VSS Calc Correction. If your VSS speed is lower than your GPS speed, increase this value. If the VSS speed is too high, decrease this value. Start with small increments, such as <5 units.
9. Re-test, once again comparing VSS speed to your external source.
10. Repeat until the discrepancy is as small as possible.
